Notes for Rudolf Wilhelm Georg Bernhard Langmann

Title: Merchant/Imp.Exp

In his younger years Rudolf owned an import-export business in Hamburg.
He spent several years in China. When the German government built a free
port on the Elbe river, the water was drained from parts of the old
harbor resulting in pilings exposed to the air rotting away and
warehouses alongside the docks collapsing into the river. Rudolf (called
Rudi) Langmann was ruined. In 1891 he moved to Denmark with his young
family and with the financial help of an aunt he started a steam laundry
(Ventegodt) outside Copenhagen, and this business he ran together with his
youngest son. On 17 April 1916 at the age of 76, he obtained Danish
citizenship.
