LANGMANN: Name is spelled in many ways, especially in the oldest
records. Cordt (Conrad or Kurt) Langermann can be tied into the Langmann
family that appeared in Nuremberg records around AD 1200. Most common
variations of the name is Langmann, Lanckmann, Lankmann, Langman,
Langeman, Langemann, Langerman and Langermann. Langeramen is another
very early variation in Mecklenburg-Pommern. Often the name of the
same individual is recorded using several of these variants.
However, the Muenster, Westfalen family that migrated to Hamburg and
Mecklenburg retained the spelling Langermann, von Langermann and von
Langermann und Erlencamp.
The other Mecklenburg branch of the family (to which the author belongs)
can be traced back to Cordt Langermann as well. They all have the same
ancestral home in Nuremberg, and family tradition further has it that
they were of Roman stock.
The English families Langman can be traced back to the Muenster and
Hamburg families.
